What Are Tooth Colored Fillings?
The Process of Filling Your Tooth with Composite Resin at Picasso Dental & Orthodontics
At Picasso Dental & Orthodontics, your dentist will carefully select a shade of composite that matches your surrounding teeth. The next step involves finding and removing any tooth decay. Before starting the procedure, your Picasso Dental & Orthodontics professional will numb the affected area with a local anesthetic. Once the numbing agent takes effect, the dentist will eliminate the decay from the cavity. The area will then be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected in preparation for the filling.
To fill the cavity, a bonding solution will be applied to the tooth's surface, followed by layers of composite resin. Each layer will be hardened using a special UV light. Your Picasso Dental & Orthodontics professional will shape and sculpt the composite resin filling to match the natural contour of your tooth. Once satisfied with the outcome, the dentist will use UV light to harden the final layer of the composite resin and polish it. The end result will be a fully restored tooth that appears healthy and does not show any visible signs of treatment.
Replacing Old Metal Fillings With Tooth-Colored Composite Resin
Cosmetic dentistry has made great strides, leading more people to consider replacing their silver amalgam fillings with tooth-colored composite resin fillings. However, the decision to replace your metal fillings, even if they are not causing any problems, is completely up to you. Our team at Picasso Dental & Orthodontics is here to help you decide on the best course of action.
Some patients decide to replace their fillings to reduce exposure to mercury, while others choose to prevent future tooth decay caused by silver amalgam fillings. We will assist you in weighing your options when it comes to filling replacement.
